Near and Dear to My Heart

"Freedom of Choice Act" Do you know what that is? It is the bill which "declares that it is the policy of the United States that every woman has the fundamental right to choose to bear a child; terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability; or terminate a pregnancy after viability when necessary to protect her life or her health."

In short it is a bill that pro-choice advocates in Congress are trying to pass making it a federal law that every woman would have the right to an abortion. It would no longer be a state by state law but a federally mandated law. No matter how long the woman has been pregnant, no matter her age a parent wouldn't have to be notified. Even if the baby was born alive during the abortion, a doctor would not be allowed to save the child. It is more than scary the things that are in this proposed bill.

When President Bush, a pro-life president, was in office the bill never made it past the house floor. There was no point in trying to pass it because President Bush would have Vetoed it without hesitation. However, now that Mr. Obama is president, to quote him, "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing that I'd do."

Some people think I'm absolutely crazy when I tell them the first thing I look at in a potential candidate running for any office, is if they are pro life. Some people don't look at this first and that is their freedom of "choice". However, I pray that people realize the effects of their vote after the fact.

I pray long and hard that this bill never becomes a law, because it will be pretty near impossible to over turn it once it happens. And I can't even imagine the COUNTLESS lives that will be lost or the woman that may be hurt long term from it if it happens.

I ask everyone, who may read this post and agrees in the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception, to be vigilant in knowing how your senators and representative will vote when this bill comes before them. And if necessary tell them how you feel by calling or writing them.

  1. Can you imagine what's next! Assisted suicide, Euthanasia. Hey maybe you will have to get permission from the government to actually have a baby. Ya that's Freedom!

  2. I agree 100% with your views. This is probably the first standard I hold candidates to when deciding who I will vote for. I think that how they feel about this issue is very indicative of their belief in God.

Thank you for sharing this. May the Lord bless you for your courage to "go against the grain" in this political climate.

  3. I couldn't agree with you more. While I don't usually like to judge people based only on one opinion, with abortion, it is much different. It speaks volumes about a persons character when they feel it is okay to murder the most innocent and defenseless members of our society. At St. Michael's, we signed postcards and sent them to our state reps asking them to do all they can to stop the bill from being passed.
